- No new clean standard or indie intake was reported at four large retailers during the summer window
- Sephora ran 2026 Accelerate applications from March 2 through March 31 for early prestige labels
- 41 labels have finished Accelerate, and over half have since launched at Sephora
For a buyer who tracks shade counts and sell-through, the rulebook did not change this summer. Between July 8 and October 3, 2026, Sephora, Ulta, Credo and Target reported no fresh clean standard update, accelerator cohort or indie program. The latest relevant retail move is still Sephora opening applications for its 2026 Accelerate Program on March 2, 2026.
That calendar counts because Accelerate is often where a small beauty label learns how to hold up in prestige doors. Sephora frames it as a United States led incubation program for prestige beauty brands at early stages and not yet widely distributed. Applications for the 2026 round closed on March 31. Finalists were expected to be named in summer, with no dated announcement yet. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 and own a North American incorporated company.
The history so far is specific. To date 41 makeup, skincare, hair care and fragrance brands have moved through Sephora Accelerate to graduation. Sephora said more than half of Accelerate graduates have launched with Sephora to date. For founders working with plant stories and tight shade ranges, that move from first batch to all-door distribution is the slow test Gloss Report watches. Formulas and packaging choices made early tend to hold, or slip, at retail scale.
Recent graduates show what that scale can mean. EADEM rolled out to all Sephora stores while Le Chouchou lip balm landed among the top 10 Sephora lip moisturizers for 2025. Kulfi is now described as an every door brand with a top 3 lip stain. Topicals, a 2021 Accelerate alum, claimed one of the best selling Sephora eye masks last year. The 7 Virtues entered Accelerate and then debuted at Sephora in 2018. MAED is the 2026 Sephora Beauty Grant winner, per the Sephora newsroom post.
Since its start a decade ago as the first prestige retail incubator for female founders, Sephora Accelerate has helped bring forward new and often underrepresented perspectives and voices in beauty. That quote appeared in the Sephora Newsroom.
The broader clean framework also held steady during the window. Ulta Beauty says every brand certified for Clean Ingredients meets its Made Without List covering substances like parabens and phthalates. Ulta Conscious Beauty covers five standards listed as Clean Ingredients, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable Packaging and Positive Impact. The Credo Clean Standard asks brands to check against a 2,700 item dirty list spanning aluminum to talc.
What to track next is assortment rather than standards. Who was chosen for the 2026 Sephora Accelerate cohort, and whether indie skincare brands were included, was not stated. The joint Know Better, Do Better ingredient report, which reviewed 318,000 ingredient listings across more than 8,500 products, was released Oct 22 with no year given, so it cannot be placed in the summer window.
For now, the routine stays familiar: swatch, check the undertone, read the claims with care, and wait to see which young labels earn doors and reorders.
