In brief
  • Creator payouts and platform fees now sit inside beauty pricing
  • Counterfeit cases on Amazon show why seller names need a check
  • Commingled stock rules change in March, but older units stay mixed

What a serum costs today reflects creator payouts and warehouse fees as much as harvest and formulation, a point clarified by a September 30, 2026 Dashboardly comparison of TikTok Shop and Amazon costs. The review found that neither platform always costs less or leaves a richer margin. Sellers should match the exact product, fulfillment setup, promo plan, and sales window.

Anyone who reads ingredient decks will notice the shift on screen first. TikTok Shop allows labels to sell through creator affiliates across videos, livestreams, and profiles. Merchants choose commission rates from 1% to 80% and can tailor rates for specific creators or campaigns. Tiered structures support stronger opening rates or stronger rates after creators pass sales milestones.

Beneath those payments sit platform charges. TikTok Shop platform fees run around 6%, so sellers should build that into commission rates. Flat fee partnerships can pair an upfront payment ranging between $20 and $10,000 with optional performance based commissions. Fulfillment brings another decision, with seller managed shipping or Fulfilled by TikTok, while Amazon offers merchant fulfillment or Fulfillment by Amazon.

Affiliate marketing now drives nearly 10% of US ecommerce sales, or $113 billion, per a 2025 study from The Performance Marketing Association. TikTok group vertical director Donte Murry told Glossy in an interview that 77% of users search for a product just seen in TikTok affiliate content. MySmile sold over $1 million in product through TikTok Shop in its first three months with affiliate creators.

Amazon delivers search volume at scale, yet its record on fakes calls for care. In April 2023 NOW Foods found 11 fake NOW supplements sold on Amazon by one seller. That same month Fungi Perfecti found 23 separate sellers on Amazon moving fakes of its Host Defense mushroom supplements. In August 2023 a fake version of Bausch + Lomb PreserVision AREDS 2 Eye Vitamin and Mineral supplement was sold on Amazon.

Later examples broadened the pattern. In September 2023 fakes of Pure Encapsulations L glutamine and NatureMD GutConnect 365 were found sold on Amazon. A lawsuit was filed in November 2023 against several parties accused of selling fake Prevagen on Amazon. In October 2024 Fungi Perfecti won a ruling that bars JT Best Deals from listing or selling Fungi Perfecti products.

Laboratory results explain why sourcing counts. NOW Foods testing showed fake supplements held capsules of plain rice flour, with some samples laced with traces of sildenafil. Fungi Perfecti fakes contained hidden gluten and soy, two ingredients missing from real Host Defense products. Under the U.S. Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, the FDA does not test or clear supplements before sale.

Amazon said it will stop commingling across its supply chain as of March 31, 2026, though that covers new inventory only. An Amazon spokesperson said Amazon has a zero tolerance policy for counterfeit products. What to watch next feels quieter than launch week. Check the seller name and expect brands to fold creator costs into retail price.

Slow botanical formulas move from field to bottle at their own pace. Fast marketplaces move from post to purchase in hours. Knowing which system stands behind the buy helps keep the routine steady.
