I want to make a woman look like she does when she is happy. Cindy Joseph said it plainly, and it explains why BOOM. Beauty looks nothing like a makeup launch from 2010.

“I want to make a woman look like she does when she is happy.” That was Cindy Joseph talking about makeup, and it tells you almost everything about BOOM. Beauty by Cindy Joseph.

Joseph spent 27 years as a makeup artist known for the natural look, working on top models before she was scouted at 49, silver hair and all, for Dolce and Gabbana. She started BOOM. in 2010 because every line she saw was anti age and none was pro age. The first offer was not a 10 step system. It was three sticks.

What the trade often misses is how deliberate that edit was. No foundation, no concealer, sheer color meant to read across skin tones, skincare with short ingredient lists. After Joseph died in July 2018, the company continued under new ownership, acquired in November 2020 by Farragut Capital Partners and Juggernaut Capital Partners. The bestseller, the Boomstick Trio, has been billed as number one for over 12 years. Reviews now run into the tens of thousands. For Gloss Report, the interest is practical. What sells, who it leaves out, and whether sheer can still hold up at hour eight.

You are the right age. The right size. The right color. The industry heard that as a slogan. On the retail floor it was a merchandising decision. One berry, one glow, one shimmer, priced to pick up without a consultation. We asked what that choice cost, and what it made possible.

You started as the artist behind the natural look for 27 years, then at 19 you had already washed off two pairs of fake lashes in a gas station bathroom and said this is crazy. How did that early break with cover up shape the sheer formulas you made decades later.

I wore not one but two pairs of fake eyelashes to high school every day. At 19 I was reapplying them in a gas station bathroom and they kept sliding, and I just laughed and washed it all off. I thought, this is crazy. Our value is innate. Our beauty is innate. That stayed with me through 27 years as a makeup artist. I pioneered the natural look on top models because I never want to call attention to the makeup. I want to call attention to the woman.

When I started BOOM., I did not want to fix or hide. That is why we do not offer concealers or foundations to hide spots. I want to make a woman look like she does when she is happy. Pleasure is beauty. And beauty is pleasure. So the sticks had to be sheer, forgiving, easy to finger blend in a 10 minute demo. Cocoa butter and olive oil for slip, a wash of berry you can build, mica for light, not glitter. If you can see the makeup first, I did my job wrong.

You have said every single cosmetic line in the world is anti age, there was not a single pro age cosmetic line ever to exist. When you founded the line in 2010, what did pro age mean on a product page, not a poster.

Pro age meant choice instead of fear. Anti age equals anti me. I am not ageless, I am age ful. That is not copy to me. It is formulation and shade logic. Age Well. Live True. Glow On. That is how we work. Women do not need fixing, covering up, or turning back time. Makeup does not have to mean 10 steps.

On the page it means sheer enough to work with every gorgeous skin tone. It means no added fragrance in the sticks. It means no harsh chemicals, no empty promises. It means Glo to hydrate lips and under eyes, Color where you blush, Glimmer on lids, brow bones, cheekbones. Three sticks that replace a makeup bag. Fun, not fear. And I am clear on this too. I am not against Botox. I am not against cosmetic surgery. I do ask women to consider what is motivating them. Are you going under the knife out of fear or out of fun.

You launched with the Boomstick Trio at 79 dollars on sale against 96 dollars regular, three 8 gram sticks that the site calls sheer enough for all tones. As a buyer I hear universal and reach for the returns receipt. Who does that berry actually suit, and who should pick Rose Nude or Peony Pink instead.

That is a fair question, and I like a woman who swatches before she buys. Boomstick Color, which some of you knew as Berry Rouge, is a creamy, blendable berry. Sheer wash, buildable pigment. On fair skin one swipe reads fresh, like you walked fast in cool air. On medium and deep skin it reads richer, and you may want two layers. The base has beetroot extract and sea buckthorn oil, mango butter and vitamin E, plus sodium hyaluronate. So it slips, then sets to a dewy finish with modest wear time. It will transfer to a coffee cup. That is the tradeoff for comfort.

If berry feels too cool or too deep, try Boomstick Rose Nude at 28 dollars for a softer rosy flush on lips and cheeks. If you wear cool pink well and want brightness, Peony Pink gives that playful pop. Golden Peach leans warm coral. Parisian Red is the rich red for when you want more payoff. Start sheer. You can always add. You cannot unapply heavy.

Glimmer is the quiet hit in that trio, a highlighter with mica that you placed on lids and cheekbones. What was the finish you wanted, and how should a 60 plus customer wear shimmer without it sitting in texture.

I wanted light, not sparkle. Think lit skin after a walk, not a stripe at hour eight. Glimmer is our all in one highlighter for a soft, dewy glow. Use little, press with a warm finger, never drag. On lids, tap a whisper at the center and the inner corner. On cheekbones, place it high where light hits, then press the edge so there is no line. On brow bones, almost nothing. Just enough to lift.

For mature skin, prep matters more than product. If lids are dry, warm Glo first, then Glimmer. If cheeks are dry, moisturize, wait two minutes, then Color, then Glimmer on top only where you want lift. Mica gives that glow, but skin texture will show if you buff too hard or layer powder over it. Cream over powder sits better than powder over cream. And please, daylight check. Bathroom light lies.

Boomsilk at 64 dollars for 8 ounces is 90 percent organic, built on water, organic olive oil, organic beeswax, organic honey and vitamin E. You leave out emulsifiers, so oil separation is normal. Tell us how to buy and use that texture, and what it will not do.

Boomsilk is one moisturizer for face and body, morning and evening. Inspired by the Mediterranean. Keep skin glowing at any age. Five ingredients. Simply effective. Use a generous layer, and yes, stir it back together when oil separates. That happens because we leave out emulsifiers. It is normal.

Put it under foundation or SPF if you wear them. Give it a minute to settle. On very dry legs and arms, layer it厚, no, layer it generously at night. Where it will not help: it is not a primer that grips silicone heavy foundation for 12 hours. It is not matte. Boom Cotton at 36 dollars is our oil free moisturizer if you want hydration without shine. Boomsilk was tested non irritating and non sensitizing, cruelty free and dermatologist tested, but if beeswax or honey bother you, patch test first. I like simple that you can understand.

I never want to call attention to the makeup. I want to call attention to the woman.

Boom Nectar at 74 dollars for 1.7 ounces pairs jojoba and hemp seed oil with rosehip, camu camu vitamin C, chaga mushroom and sea buckthorn. Serums often promise tone and texture change that needs a prescription. What should a customer realistically see, and how do two to three drops fit with Boomsilk.

Use two to three drops to face, neck and decolletage, then moisturizer. That order matters. Nectar first, then Boomsilk to seal. Morning and night is fine if your skin likes it. If you are sensitive, start once a day.

What to expect: the appearance of smoother, more even looking skin with regular use, plus surface hydration that helps makeup sit better. Camu camu and rosehip supply botanical vitamin C for the look of tone and texture. Sea buckthorn nourishes and soothes with antioxidants. Jojoba and hemp seed oil soften. It visibly improves texture while it hydrates, but it will not erase deep spots or change bone structure. No serum does. Give it three to four weeks of steady use. If it pills, you used too much. Two drops, press, wait, then moisturize.

Your shade and tool range is tight. Two brow pencil shades, Taupe and Chocolate Brown, three eyeliners, two brow mousses, a 38 dollar Seamless Blending Brush and an Eye Contour Blending Brush. From a sell through view, what sells, what sits, and which shade extension would you green light first.

Sticks sell. Trio first, for over 12 years our number one bestseller, then single sticks like Rose Nude and Color. Boomsilk at 4.7 stars from 32,953 reviews sells steady because one jar covers face and body. The Trio at 4.3 stars from 58,033 reviews brings new customers, and Nectar follows for texture. Tools move slower. That is normal. A 38 dollar brush needs education and a demo, and doors matter. Online we can teach the press and tap method. On a shelf you need a tester and a mirror.

If I green light one extension, it is brow and liner depth. Two brow shades leave out the very fair cool blonde and the very deep espresso. I would add a soft ash blonde and a true deep brown black that still looks soft on mature skin. In liner, Jet Black, Espresso Brown and Charcoal cover a lot, but a soft bronze brown for blue and green eyes would sell through. Pigment load stays sheer to medium. We are not a full coverage house.

Cindy died in July 2018 after a cancer battle, and in November 2020 the brand was acquired by Farragut Capital Partners and Juggernaut Capital Partners. How has the line held her voice since, and what did you choose not to change.

Cindy Josephs legacy lives on. That is not a tagline, it is the brief. She was our founder, a 27 year makeup artist and a silver haired supermodel scouted the same day she let her hair go silver in New York. She built the worlds first pro age cosmetic and skincare line because women do not need fixing. We kept that.

We did not add foundation or concealer. We did not add anti aging language or a 10 step routine. The Trio still anchors. Heritage Glo is still three USDA certified organic ingredients: olive oil, beeswax, honey. The badges still hold: cruelty free, dermatologist tested across Trio, Boomsilk and Nectar. What changed is scale and care. More reviews to read, more demos to film, more women of every generation to serve, especially 60 plus. The voice stays direct, playful, rebellious, pleasure first. You are perfect just as you are.

Last question from the kit perspective. If an artist has 10 minutes, mature skin, and only Boomsticks plus Boomsilk, what is the order, where does payoff fall short by hour eight, and what is the one reorder you would predict.

Ten minutes. Cleanse or refresh, then Boomsilk, thin on the face, wait one minute. Glo on lips and a whisper under eyes where concealer would sit. Do not layer heavy. Color where you blush, smile, tap, press the edge. A second tap for depth if you need it. Glimmer high on cheekbones, center of lids, tiny touch at brow bone. Blot once with a tissue, then press again with a clean finger. That pressing is the wear time trick.

By hour eight, expect softening. Berry fades to a stain, Glimmer settles to a low glow, lips ask for more Glo. Blotting paper plus one more press of Color brings it back without caking. No setting spray needed, though a light powder only in the T zone helps if you run oily. The reorder I would predict is Color or Rose Nude. Not because the formula fails. Because she uses it daily, lips plus cheeks, and an 8 gram stick used twice a day empties first. That is the best kind of sell through. Use, love, repurchase.

Closing note from the desk

What stays with us is the discipline of the edit. No foundation wall, no concealer promise, no twelve shade grid that stops three shades short. Just sheer sticks, one workhorse moisturizer, a gentle serum, and demos that show real faces in daylight. It is easy to call that limited. On the floor it reads as clear.

BOOM. set out to be pro age when every other line was anti age, to say beauty is something you grow into and makeup should take 10 minutes. After loss and acquisition, that thesis still shows in what they did not add. For shoppers who swatch first and keep receipts, that restraint is the review.
